Hyundai appoints new team principal ahead of 2023 WRC season

Hyundai Motorsport announced today that Cyril Abiteboul will be the new team principal in 2023 who has a 15-year experience in Motorsport.

The Alzenau-based team had announced Julien Moncet as their deputy team principal for 2022 after Andrea Adamo's departure at the end of 2021. The Koreans were looking for an experienced person in that role and it was tipped that Cyril Abiteboul would replace the first one for this year. Finally, the romors were confirmed as the Frenchman signed a contract with Hyundai and his role is to help the team in World Rally Championship and in Customer Racing programs.

Abiteboul has no experience in World Rally Championship, but he was the person in charge at Renault Sport F1 from 2014 to 2020 and knows very well how to work under pressure as he was taking decisions in one of the hardest Motorsport series, in Formula 1.

"I am relishing the opportunity to join Hyundai Motorsport as Team Principal from 2023", Abiteboul said.

"In motorsport, like in the rest of their activities, the Hyundai brand is cautiously building its leadership.

"I am excited at the prospect of being part of it, managing the WRC and Customer Racing programs, where the team has already proven to be strong competitors.

"I am looking forward to immersing myself into the rallying community and discovering more about this spectacular sport.

"Hyundai has given me its full support to make the transition into this role a smooth one.

"I can’t wait to get started".
