Official: Skoda extends Solberg's deal for one more year

Oliver Solberg and Skoda Motorsport will continue their collaboration for one more year as the youngster returned to WRC2 class with the Fabia in 2023.

Hyundai Motorsport announced at the end of Rally New Zealand last year that the team would not renew Solberg's contract for 2023, thus the Swede driver was looking at his option for the past season. He reached an agreement with Skoda Motorsport and Toksport in 2023 as Andreas Mikkelsen was in contact with Hyundai Motorsport for a Rally1 seat, but eventually the Koreans announced Esapekka Lappi meaning that the 2023 WRC2 Champion had to start his 2023 season very late as Toksport had already finalized its driver line-up. Solberg had a great season with Toksport and Skoda Motorsport as he managed to be victorious in two rallies in WRC2 class (Rally Sweden, Rally Chile) and claimed two podiums with the new Fabia RS Rally2 while he chose to participate in four rallies to gain more experience without scoring points for the championship. From these four rounds, he was the top RC2 driver in one occasion (Rally Finland) and finished at the top three twice (Croatia Rally, Safari Rally Kenya). Last but not least, it must be mentioned that it was rumored that he would driver for M-Sport Ford in 2024 after Ott Tanak's departure, but the main issue was his sponsor, Monster Energy, as the Malcolm Wilson's team is in discussions with Red Bull ahead of the new season.

"Škoda Motorsport is looking forward to next WRC2 season and further cooperation with Oliver Solberg", Skoda's statement said.

""One of the most talented young drivers in the WRC2 championship has collected an impressive number of stage wins in the 2023 season.

"Good luck for next season with us!".
