Gregoire Munster says that his Rally de Portugal did not end well for him after his retirement on Sunday and will use everything he learned there to Rally Italia Sardegna.
The driver from Luxembourg was at the bottom of WRC classification in Portugal despite his road position on Friday while he had to open the stages on Saturday due to the position he had at the end of the opening day. In Stage 12, he stopped twice due to an engine issue with his Ford Puma Rally1 and dropped outside the top ten, but the car was repaired itself on the road section before the start of SS13 and generally he was struggling to feel confident resulting in being the slowest driver from the WRC grid. In addition to these, he was forced to stop in Stage 21, just one stage far from the rally finish, after his having a half spin on a corner resulting in hooking up in a cut and being stuck on a ditch. At the end of the fifth WRC round, WRC2 drivers are in front of Munster on the championship as he has only eight points which means that he will start last in Sardinia.
"Rally Portugal didn’t end well for us, we got hooked up in a cut and landed stuck on a ditch by the sump guard, and unfortunately we couldn’t continue", Munster said.
"All in all, we learned plenty during this rally.
"By opening the road on Saturday we had to do a lot of cleaning; it wasn’t easy but it was good learning for us.
"We also saw our times improve throughout the weekend on the second passes, on a rally that was basically new for us, we felt this was good practice and we had a good feeling in the car.
"We will carry the experience on to Sardinia in a couple of weeks".
