Hyundai Motorsport set to remain in WRC for 2026

The team principal of Hyundai Motorsport, Cyril Abiteboul, leaves the door open on his team remaining in World Rally Championship for one more year.

It was rumored a couple of months ago that the Alzenau-based team would not continue competing at the highest level of World Rally Championship next year as Hyundai will also join LeMans and World Endurance Championship from 2026. However, Cyril Abiteboul hints that Hyundai is set to continue running in WRC next year which means that they may leave WRC before the start of 2027. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that Hyundai was unwilling to build a new car in 2024 when the next-gen of regulations were not confirmed by FIA in time.

"I have no official statement to make because when we have it, we’ll make it in a formal way", Abiteboul said.

'But yeah, as I stand, as boss of the team, I want to be optimistic and I’m certainly working extremely hard, not just myself, but with a number of people around me in that direction to remain.

'We need to continue building the case for WRC on a yearly basis, like we always do.

'You know that automotive industry is a tough environment out there.

"There are a lot of factors impacting what the car makers can and cannot afford to do, but I’m positive we’ll find a compelling reason to stay committed to the sport next year.

"There is a bit more homework to be done so we are in a position to make that confirmation loud and clear for everyone out there".
