At the end of Friday morning, Sebastien Ogier is the new rally leader in Japan with Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta following him.
Sebastien Ogier stole Kalle Rovanpera's lead at the end of Stage 2 by setting the fastest time there, but he lost his advantage at the end of Stage 3 as he dropped to second overall just 0,5 seconds behind Takamoto Katsuta. However, he managed to retake his lead at the end of Stage 4.
Elfyn Evans comes right behind his teammate for one second and he set the fastest time in Stage 4.
Takamoto Katsuta dropped from first to third overall at the end of Stage 4 as he managed to stole Ogier's lead at the end of Stage 3 by setting the fastest time there.
Sami Pajari does the 1-2-3-4 for Toyota Gazoo Racing and is 7,8 seconds behind Katsuta.
Adrien Fourmaux completes the top five and is the leading Hyundai driver while he left Ott Tanak behind for 30 seconds.
Thierry Neuville and Gregoire Munster complete the top 8.
Kalle Rovanpera is outside the top ten as he damaged the rear suspension of his Yaris in Stage 3 when he went too fast and ran wide.
Josh McErlean was forced to retire when he crashed 8,9 Km into Stage 3.
