Two things led Fourmaux to his crash at Rally Japan

Adrien Fourmaux reveals the two reasons which led him to crash on the opening stage of Sunday, but stays positive with his performance at Rally Japan.

The Frenchman was the leading Hyundai driver all the weekend in Japan and managed to overtake Sami Pajari for the fourth position at the end of Friday. He gained one position when Takamoto Katsuta dropped from third to seventh due an impact the last one had with a water barrier in Stage 11 while he was the only Hyundai driver who won two stages during Rally Japan. The event did not have a good conclusion as he went wide and off the road in Stage 15. He and Alex Coria managed to complete the stage, but their i20N was heavily damaged on the right side. In fact, the co-driver's door was missing along with the time cards, thus they were forced to retire on the road section before the start of Stage 16 due to safety reasons.

"Firstly and most importantly, both Alex and I are OK", Fourmaux said.

"There was a lot of mist on my windscreen which made it difficult to see the road.

"I didn’t hear Alex’s pacenote warning about a tricky corner, and I didn’t see it either, so we went slightly wide into the trees, which damaged the door and side of the car.

"Without the door and with the time card inside, we had no choice but to retire.

"Of course, I am disappointed, but at the same time, we were able to fight at the front all weekend and make good progress with the car.

"Overall, we can say it was a really positive weekend".
