Ott Tanak confirms that he will retire from the World Rally Championship at the end of the 2025 season.
The Estonian driver has 174 starts in World Rally Championship so far and has been crowned as the WRC Champion only once in his career as he secured his first title with Toyota back in 2019. During his WRC career, he has driven for M-Sport Ford, Toyota Gazoo Racing and Hyundai Motorsport. He has been 58 times on the podium positions and has won 22 events in World Rally Championship so far. Despite the recent rumors suggesting that Tanak would rejoin Toyota next year, the 2019 WRC Champion decided to call time on his WRC career at the end of 2025 which means that the upcoming Rally Saudi Arabia will be his last event.
"After many incredible years competing at the top of the WRC, I have decided that the end of the 2025 season is the right moment to step back from full-time rallying", Tanak said.
"This isn’t a complete goodbye, it’s a chance to reset, recharge and refocus for the future.
"This sport has been a huge part of my life, but I feel it’s time to take a breath, spend more time with my family and focus on life back home in Estonia.
"I want to sincerely thank everyone at Hyundai Motorsport for the incredible years we have spent together, from the engineers and mechanics to the management and all those working tirelessly behind the scenes, and last but not least, all our amazing fans around the world.
"We have shared victories, challenges and countless memories that I will always carry with me.
"I am proud of everything we achieved together and deeply grateful for the trust and support the team has shown me.
"I still love the sport deeply and I’m sure I’ll continue to be around in some way.
"Thank you once again and see you somewhere down the road!".
