The organizers of Rally Islas Canarias reached a new agreement with FIA and WRC Promoter which means that the event will remain at the WRC calendar until 2029.
Rally Islas Canarias hosted a WRC event for the first time a year ago where Kalle Rovanpera showed a dominant performance with his Toyota GR Yaris Rally1. In 2026, the event will host the fifth WRC round and will be held on April 23-26. The organizers announced that they signed a new contract with FIA and WRC Promoter through 2027-2029. The Spanish event includes proper tarmac stages at Gran Canaria and will be the second consecutive asphault round of this year's championship.
"Rally Islas Canarias - Rally of Spain has made an immediate and a positive impact on the WRC", Simon Larkin said.
"The quality of the event, the character of the roads and the commitment shown by all local, regional and national partners give us great confidence in its long-term future on the calendar.
"Securing this agreement through to 2029 is an important step in building stability and continuity for the championship.
"Such was the economic impact to the islands from the thousands of visitors who came for the rally and stayed, that all local stakeholders were keen to immediately secure the long-term future for the WRC in Canarias".
