The sporting director of Hyundai Motorsport, Andrew Wheatley, says that the team is very concentrated and working hard on the "Evo" version of i20N for the rest of the season and admits that they have not decided yet if the Koreans will continue participating in the main category of WRC in 2027.
Toyota and Prospeed are the only manufacturers who have confirmed their participation in World Rally Championship for the 2027 season as M-Sport Ford and Hyundai are still examining the WRC27 regulations. In fact, M-Sport Ford is thinking of running the Fiesta MKII Rally2 next year whereas Hyundai is being focused on developing the current i20N Rally1 for the rest of this season. At the same time, the Korean squad is working hard on the i20N Rally2 and its drivers have tested it many times this year in order to understand better the Hankook tires. It is unknown if and when Hyundai will decide for its WRC future as the car brand has also invested in WEC with its high-performance marque, Genesis.
"No we are not any closer to a decision", Wheatley answered if the team is edging closer to a decision regarding its future in the WRC.
"We are working towards understanding what 2027 looks like and we are in regular communication with the promoter and the FIA to understand how 2027 is going to work.
"Obviously the design team is working at 120% on the Rally1 car and that is our priority to try and ensure we can get the best we can out of the car that we have.
"When the time is ready we will have the information from our partners to understand what the next steps are."
