Lando Norris swapped Formula 1’s smooth circuits for ice-covered rally stages as he sampled a Toyota rally car in Sweden — with Oliver Solberg guiding him through the experience.
The McLaren driver got behind the wheel of a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 during a special event organised by Monster Energy on a frozen lake, stepping far outside his usual comfort zone. Used to the precision and grip of F1 machinery, Norris had to quickly adapt to sliding, throttle control and the constant balance adjustments required on snow and ice.
Solberg, fresh from strong performances in the WRC2 category, took on the role of mentor — explaining the nuances of rally driving and encouraging Norris to push the limits. The transition from circuit racing to rallying is far from simple, but Norris embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, admitting the experience was both demanding and hugely enjoyable.
Watching from nearby was former world champion Petter Solberg, who praised Norris’ willingness to attack the conditions and noted how quickly he grew in confidence behind the wheel.
The crossover highlights the mutual respect between disciplines at the top level of motorsport. While Norris remains firmly focused on his Formula 1 career, his rally outing offered a glimpse into a different world — one defined by adaptability, instinct and fearless commitment on unpredictable surfaces.
