Rally Portugal set for major home change from 2027

Rally Portugal will enter a new era from 2027, with the event set to relocate its service park and operational base from Matosinhos to Viseu. The move comes after confirmation that the Exponor exhibition center, which has served as the rally headquarters for more than a decade, will be demolished in the coming years.

Organizers have already reached an agreement with local authorities in Viseu, securing the city as the new home of the WRC round for at least three seasons. While the rally’s central hub will change, the organizers are expected to keep several of Portugal’s most famous gravel stages in the itinerary in order to preserve the spirit and identity of the event.

Attention is now turning to the future of the legendary Fafe stage, one of the most iconic locations in the entire WRC calendar. Although the stage is located a significant distance from Viseu, it is still expected to remain part of the rally, with possible timetable adjustments being considered to accommodate the new format.

The relocation represents another important milestone in the history of Rally Portugal, an event that has changed regions multiple times since first joining the championship. Despite the logistical changes over the decades, the rally has consistently remained one of the highlights of the WRC season thanks to its demanding roads, passionate fans and unique atmosphere.
