Acropolis Rally - 4th Day: Ogier back to the top step of Greek podium after 15 years, disaster for Neuville and Fourmaux

At the end of Sunday, Sebastien Ogier claims his second victory of the season after his latest win at Rally Islas Canarias with Thierry Neuville and Takamoto Katsuta following him.

Sebastien Ogier stole Thierry Neuville's lead at the end of the opening Sunday stage and increased his gap over the Belgian when the last one got a puncture on the penultimate stage of Acropolis Rally. In fact, Ogier was 1,3 seconds ahead of Neuville after SS14 while he set an identical pace with Neuville in Stage 15 which means that Ogier's lead remained at 1,3 seconds with two stages remaining until the end of the eighth WRC round. Moreover, the Frenchman was the fastest driver in Stage 16 and 17 which means that he claimed the 10 bonus points from Powerstage and SuperSunday standings.

Thierry Neuville dropped to second overall after the end of Stage 14 and lost 53,5 seconds compared to Ogier in Stage 16 as the Hyundai driver initially suffered from a rear right puncture there. However, the problems continued for Neuville who clipped a rear left puncture as well towards the end of SS16.

Takamoto Katsuta does the 1-3 for Toyota Gazoo Racing and managed to decrease his championship fight with Elfyn Evans to seven points after his securing the lowest place of the podium in Greece.

Josh McErlean secured his best result so far in his WRC career and he managed to protect his fourth place from Sami Pajari and Adrien Fourmaux. In fact, he moved up to fourth position after the end of Stage 15 taking advantage over Fourmaux's puncture there. However, he made a mistake in Stage 16 as he outbraked down a hill and his Puma was stuck on the sand for some seconds.

Sami Pajari completes the top five and was behind Adrien Fourmaux for 0,9 seconds at the end of Stage 15 while he passed the Hyundai driver for one tenth of a second after SS16.

Adrien Fourmaux lost two places in total on Sunday and finished behind the fifth Pajari for 6,5 seconds. The Frenchman slipped behind McErlean at the end of Stage 15 due to a front left puncture while he lost one place at the end of Stage 16. Finally, he had a rear right puncture towards the end of Powerstage which costed him crucial points on the championship as he scored zero points in PS.

Elfyn Evans keeps his seventh position overall at Acropolis Rally and retained his place despite the slow rear right puncture that he got in Stage 14.

Martins Sesks moved up to eighth overall as he overtook many Rally2 drivers on the classification today. It must be mentioned that the Latvian was eleventh at the end of Saturday.

Oliver Solberg, Jon Armstrong and Jourdan Serderidis remained outside the top ten as all of them restarted on Saturday under the SuperRally regulations.

Hyundai Motorsport decided to retire Dani Sordo's car before the start of the Powerstage due to strategic reasons that the team wanted to save its third car for the fast gravel rallies of the season. The Spaniard was in eighth position overall before Hyundai's official announcement.
