Oliver Solberg explains the accident he had in Stage 7 of Acropolis Rally revealing that his GR Yaris Rally1 occurred a gearbox issue after this incident.
The Swede driver got a front left puncture and dropped outside the top ten in Stage 2, but he managed to take some positions back on Friday and moved up to ninth overall after the end of Stage 6. However, he lost the rear of his Yaris in Stage 7 and went straight into a bank. He had to reverse in order to continue into the stage, but his Yaris was stuck on a bank 6.5Km into SS7. Moreover, he stated after this incident that the gearbox was damaged after his effort to reverse with the view of get going again. Solberg is set to restart on Saturday under the SuperRally regulations, but he will not start first on the road as Jourdan Serderidis and Jon Armstrong are set to clean the Saturday stages after their retirements.
"Today has been tougher than expected", Solberg said.
"To have the puncture in the first stage this morning was unfortunate, and after that we were just trying to stay out of trouble really.
"Then in the last stage of the day I got too wide in a right-hander and just got beached on the edge of the road, and when I tried to reverse I damaged the gearbox and ended up being stuck.
"It’s very frustrating, especially as we had not been pushing after what happened earlier.
"It’s been a tough run lately and we need to understand it and improve and keep our heads up".
