Small chance for Latvala to drive the Rally1 car of Toyota

The team principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Jari-Matti Latvala, admits that there is a small chance to get behind the wheel of the GR Yaris Rally1 this year, but he is still pushing for testing it.

The Japanese team has created five chassis from which four of them is currently running in the World Rally Championship by Esapekka Lappi, Takamoto Katsuta, Sebastien Ogier, Elfyn Evans and Kalle Rovanpera.

However, it is expected that a fifth Rally1 car of Toyota will be running in the second half of 2022 and there are two possibilites: one young driver from the "Next Generation" program of Toyota will be choosen to drive this car and will have Takamoto Katsuta as his teammate while the second option is for Toyota to rent this Rally1 car to customers.

"We will see", Latvala said.

"If I have a chance it will be at the end of the year anyway, the second half of the season and towards the end of the year.

"I wouldn’t say it’s a big chance, but maybe there’s a small chance.

"But I will push for it.

"I tell you I will push it but there’s no promises".
