Ypres powerstage win important for Rovanpera after his crash

Kalle Rovanpera says that a victory at the Powerstage of Ypres Rally Belgium was important for him to keep his big gap on drivers' championship after the crash he had on Friday morning.

The current championship leader had a big accident in Stage 2 of Ypres Rally as his Yaris rolled five times after his hitting a hole on a left-hander with the front right of his car.

After this incident, he had to retire for the rest of Friday as his Yaris was heavily damaged. However, Toyota mechanics managed to repair the car for Saturday and changed almost everything apart from the hybrid unit, the engine, the gearbox and the rollcage.

Moreover, Rovanpera was not affected by his crash as took some stage wins the next two days and was the fastest driver in Powerstage resulting in scoring five points.

"Ιt was important to win the powerstage of course, we bounced back on Saturday morning quite well but for sure the main thing was to do it on the powerstage", Rovanpera said.

"It was good to get some points and now the gap didn't close too much.

"It felt normal, straight away I wanted to push a bit, or not push but to drive normally, and have a good feeling so that it was easier to stay focused and try to enjoy it.

"I learned a few things in a tricky rally like this.

"Hopefully we will learn from the mistake also".
