Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT is heading to Rally Chile with a big-point advantage over the second Hyundai and it is possible for the Japanese team to clinch its third manufacturer title in a row in Chile next weekend. But how will this happen?
First of all, M-Sport Ford is out of contention on the fight for the manufacturers' title as the team is 210 and 119 points behind Toyota and Hyundai respectively after the end of Acropolis Rally. Toyota can reach the seven manufacturers' titles in WRC history next week if they outscore Hyundai by 13 points or more in Chile as their gap is currently at 91 points with three rounds remaining until the season finale. However, it must be mentioned that only Elfyn Evans participated at the top level at Rally Chile four years ago as Kalle Rovanpera and Takamoto Katsuta competed with WRC2 cars then whereas Thierry Neuville, Esapekka Lappi and Teemu Suninen had WRC programmes in 2019. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that this year's Rally Chile includes many new stages compared to the 2019 version, therefore the Toyota duo may not have a disadvantage over their rivals.
