Toyota to bring a suspension upgrade to Yaris next month

The technical director of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Tom Fowler, says that his team will bring a suspension upgrade to Yaris Rally1 from Safari Rally Kenya onwards.

The Japanese team introduced an engine upgrade to the Yaris Rally1 from the start of this season which is related to the response at low speed and the torque curve. As a continuation of the improvements, the Toyota drivers will benefit from a suspension upgrade from Safari Rally Kenya as the mechanics will field a new suspension package of ten components with the aim of improving the performance and the reliability.

Safari Rally of Kenya will be held on March 28-31 and, so far, it remains unknown if Sebastien Ogier or Kalle Rovanpera will join Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta and will drive the third Yaris Rally1.

"It’s going to be quite a big overhaul in the suspension system", Fowler said.

"This has been the target of our development through the 2023 season and into 2024.

"A lot of the parts in the suspension system are VO (Variant Option, homologated, but don’t require a joker), so not joker.

"It’s a suspension package which involves, I would say, at least 10 components, so it’s quite a big update.

"It’s not pure performance.

"There’s reliability in there as well.

"We have had some suspension-related technical difficulties over the last couple of years, at times".
