Thierry Neuville is talking about his incident in Stage 5 of Rally Sardinia which led him to retire from the day.
The Belgian driver was leading Rally Sardinia at the end of Stage 4 and was ahead of his teammate Adrien Fourmaux for 0,2 seconds. Neuville was pushing in Stage 5 in order to build a safety net around his lead, but, unfortunately, he hit a wall with the rear left of his i20N resulting in damaging the steering arm ad eventually in retiring. Hyundai confirmed that Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe will return back to action tomorrow.
"It’s disappointing to end our day in retirement – our first since Sardinia last year, so a shame to end our positive run of results", Neuville said.
"I lost the front of the car on the entry to a corner at high speed, and we went maybe 15cm wide and hit something with the rear, ripping our tyre off too.
"Unfortunately that was the end of our running.
"It was a bit of a surprise as I was close to flat out this morning and similar this afternoon, but unfortunately it didn’t end well for us today".
