Elfyn Evans says that his focus remains to do a proper job during the rally weekends and is not concentrated on the championship points while he does not know yet if his road position will be a benefit or a disadvantage at Rally Japan.
Evans managed to steal Ott Tanak's second place in Powerstage and to claim the 17 points from his top two finish at Central European Rally. Moreover, he scored four points on SuperSunday and in Powerstage which means that he left with 25 points from CER, but the most important is that he took back his championship lead from Sebastien Ogier who was forced to retire on Saturday after his crash in Stage 10. However, he did not manage to outscore Kalle Rovanpera who collected 31 points after winning this year's Central European Rally and finishing third on SuperSunday and in Powerstage. The Welshman is ahead of his teammates for 13 points on the championship standings and will start first on the road at Rally Japan which will be held on November 6-9.
"Honestly, I try not to look at it too much - it’s better that way", Evans said about the championship points.
"If you stress too much about the championship, it takes your focus away from the job.
"So I just concentrate on the task at hand.
"It depends a lot on the weather in Japan.
"We’ve seen in the past that when it rains, it brings all the leaves down, and the road almost cleans itself.
"We’ll have to wait and see how things play out - I don’t know yet if road position will be a benefit or a disadvantage".
