Rally Saudi Arabia - 4th Day: Neuville takes a surprising win as Ogier writes history


At the end of Saturday, Thierry Neuville is the winner of this year's Rally Saudi Arabia with Adrien Fourmaux and Sebastien Ogier following him.

Thierry Neuville stormed into the lead of Rally Saudi Arabia at the end of Stage 15 and managed to score his first win of the season.

Adrien Fourmaux does the 1-2 for Hyundai Motorsport and climbed to the second place at the end of Stage 16 taking advantage over his rivals' problems. Moreover, he set the fastest time in Stage 15.

Sebastien Ogier gained three positions in Stage 16 as he was the fastest driver there and completes the top three, but the most important is that he clinched his ninth title in World Rally Championship and is level to Sebastien Loeb. Vincent Landais becomes a WRC Co-Driver Champion for the first time in his career.

Sami Pajari also earned three places in Stage 16 and managed to finish fourth overall although he desered a better result considering he was fighting for the lead on Friday.

Takamoto Katsuta lost two positions in Stage 16 and completes the top five as he rolled his Yaris after going wide and digging into the sand in Stage 16. After this incident, he had no windscreen, so he and Aaron Johnston wore goggles.

Elfyn Evans moved up to sixth position overall at the end of Stage 16 and lost his chance to clinch his maiden title in World Rally Championship for four points. He was beaten by Ogier for 0,8 seconds on SuperSunday standings, but he set the fastest time in Powerstage.

Kalle Rovanpera dropped to seventh after his suffering from a front left puncture in Stage 16.

Gregoire Munster and Josh McErlean complete the top nine.

Sesks lost seven positions in Stage 16 as he got a double puncture there. In fact, he stopped at 9 Km to change a wheel while he got another puncture at 22Km into SS16. Also, he mentioned at the end of Stage 16 that the engine of his Puma sounded like it is running on one less cylinder. Finally, he was just two seconds behind the rally leader Neuville at the end of Stage 15, but he was forced to retire before the start of Powerstage.

Ott Tanak restarted today under the SuperRally regulations as Hyundai decided to retire his car at the end of Friday. The Estonian ran wide in a junction at 15Km into SS15.

Nasser Al-Attiyah finished outside the top ten.
