Ogier pays tribute to his friend Tanak

Sébastien Ogier has paid tribute to his friend Ott Tänak, sharing a heartfelt message before the end of the 2025 season, following Tänak’s decision to retire from the World Rally Championship.

Sébastien Ogier and Ott Tänak have faced each other countless times during their careers in the World Rally Championship, producing some of the most intense and memorable battles in recent WRC history, often decided on the final special stage. However, Tänak announced a month ago that he will retire from the WRC at the end of the 2025 season, leaving a significant gap in the championship. His departure is particularly notable, as Tänak would have been a strong contender for another world title in 2026. Over the course of his career, the Estonian driver has secured one WRC title, 22 rally victories and 58 podium finishes. Despite their frequent on-stage clashes, the relationship between Ogier and Tänak extends beyond rivalry. Their friendship began in 2016, and in 2018 they became teammates at M-Sport Ford, further strengthening the bond forged through years of competition at the highest level of rallying.

"Before the end of 2025, I felt the need to share a few words about a piece of news I didn't comment on when it first came out, but one that truly touched me", Ogier said.

"As you all know, Ott Tänak won't be competing in the WRC next year, and I think we can all agree that this is a real loss for our sport.

"On a personal level, I will truly miss him.

"As a competitor, he was probably the one who pushed me the hardest, who forced me to dig deeper and go closer to my limits than anyone else throughout my career.

"But even more than that, I will miss him as a friend.

"Ott, you are a great family man, someone I truly respect.

"I hope you enjoy every moment with your loved ones and embrace this new chapter with the same strength and honesty you've always shown.

"Life has a way of surprising us, and who knows what paths may still cross again.

"Maybe this is goodbye.

"Or maybe it's simply see you later!"
